About the Author

I am a story-teller first and foremost although I have a passing interest in philosophy, which led me to put together a book called LILA'S CHILD. In August of 1998 I'd become interested in a discussion group called the Lila Squad which centered around the works of Robert M. Pirsig: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and his second novel Lila: An Inquiry into Morals.

With the encouragement of one of the long-time members of the group, Bodvar Skutvik of Norway, I put together a compilation of the first year of discussions between Lila Squad members. I uploaded it to a website late in 1999 so that anyone with an interest could check it out. Some time later, Bodvar wrote me to say that Robert Pirsig had stumbled across my website and how impressed he was with it. Bodvar informed me that Mr. Pirsig was making notes on some of the ideas contained in LILA'S CHILD.

I had the crazy idea that perhaps Mr. Pirsig would allow me access to those notes so that they could be included in a future edition of LILA'S CHILD. I wrote to Bodvar with my idea. He was less than enthused about it but to his credit he wrote to ask Mr. Pirsig about his notes. Much to my surprise, Bodvar wrote me not too many months later with the news that Mr. Pirsig had agreed to furnish his notes plus an introduction for LILA'S CHILD.

After much work, including several rewrites, LILA'S CHILD was published in 2002 by AuthorHouse. Later as the e-book craze took hold I published it on Amazon.com where it has enjoyed some sales over the last few years. In addition, LILA'S CHILD has been cited in a PhD thesis by Dr. Anthony McWatt as well as in several scholarly papers.

Since the publication of LILA'S CHILD I have been writing fictional short stories and novellas in my spare time. I enjoy it very much. Last year I decided to give myself over to writing more than I have in the past by working part time instead of full time. It hasn't been easy but so far I'm not starving to death and the lights are still on.

Early in 2011 I published a collection of short stories on Amazon.com as well as several novellas. Just recently, I published my first novel, Billy Austin, which is the first book of a series called A Gathering of Lovers. I hope to have three more novels ready for publication in 2012, one of which, Lisa, is available now although only as a novella. As the books become available they too will be published on Amazon.com where they can be both purchased and borrowed for free by anyone with a Kindle reader.

I update my blog often, usually with excerpts from stories I am currently working on or perhaps a short essay. I enjoy hearing from my readers. Please feel free to drop me a line. I respond personally to everyone. Thank you for visiting my site.
